What is a die-cut sticker?

Die-cut stickers, also known as contour cut stickers, are cut through both the sticker and the backing paper with a small white border to protect the print. This makes them look great and are easy to hand out.

The custom shaped option is specially designed to follow the silhouette of your logo, symbol or design and helps bring your creative ideas to life making them attractive and unique.

How to make die cut stickers

For a standard shape, like round or square, just pick the shape. For a custom shape you can either let our tool create the cutline or make your own. Watch the short video below for a step-by-step guide.

  1. Select the “Custom Shape” option.
  2. Upload your design, ensuring that your artwork has a white, transparent or solid colour background and an obvious image edge for our tool to generate the cutting path. Our sticker cutting service adds a small gap around the image to smooth the appearance.
  3. If the image has a solid background colour you can use the 'Contour cut' checkbox for precision kiss cutting that traces around the inner image. Then, use the Artwork background toggle to create a white border around your design.
  4. Check the preview to be sure that your design suits you.

Make your own cutlines in Illustrator

For standard sticker shapes like circles or rectangles, you can skip the custom cutline process entirely.

  1. Open your artwork in Adobe Illustrator to create custom cut stickers, adding your path cutline around your design.
  2. Add a new swatch named 'Stanze" with the Colour Type = Spot Colour, Colour Mode = CMYK set to 100% black.
  3. Assign your cutline the Stanze swatch and save the design as a PDF.
  4. Select the 'Custom Shape' option in the configurator.
  5. Click the Upload Artwork button and upload your PDF.
  6. Check the preview and Add to basket.

Kiss cut stickers are only cut through the top layer, leaving the sticker attached to a larger backing sheet. Die cut is ideal for giveaways and single stickers, while kiss cut works well for sticker sheets.

You can upload your artwork and let our online tool automatically create the cutline around your design. Simply select 'Custom Shape' in the configurator, upload your image, and the tool traces around it. For more control, you can create your own cutline path in Adobe Illustrator and upload the file with the cutline included.

PDF is the preferred format for die cut stickers, especially if you're including your own cutline path. For simple designs where you want our tool to create the cutline automatically, PNG and JPEG files with transparent or solid backgrounds work well. High-resolution files (300 DPI) give the best print quality.

Standard delivery takes 3-5 working days from artwork approval. If you need them faster, express delivery gets your die cut stickers to you in as little as 1 working day. Delivery is free on orders over a certain value - check the basket for current thresholds.
