Time to reflect and think green
Ways to get involved in Green Month
During Green Month we want to encourage you to get involved and apply some of the ideas below to make your space (whether in the office or at home) more sustainable and even more organised with our custom labels and stickers!
We encourage you to get involved and apply some of the ideas below to make your home and workspace more sustainable!
Think before you print
Why not start simple by thinking about printing?
A lot of the information we need these days can be written and saved digitally, so consider carefully if you need to have printed copies of documents. If hard copies are indeed required, then consider printing them on recycled paper. If possible, choose the ‘eco print’ setting on your printer (you can find this on ‘Printing Properties’) so you can print double-sided, skip blank pages, and save on toner, ink and paper.
Make sure to recycle as much as you can from the start, not only on the paper you use, but other things like cards, and files, that you frequently use at home.
Lighting is key
Visualise your current space, and then think about how you can best optimise the lay-out to allow you to save on energy. Try to find a space or location that catches as much sunlight as possible, so you can reduce the use of artificial lights during the day.
If you’re working in an office, you can suggest to your employer the idea of installing light sensors (if your office doesn’t have one yet) so the lights only turn on when people are in and around the workspace.
Embrace your inner gardener
Did you know that humans have a biological desire to be close to nature and other living things? This is called biophilia hypothesis – “an innate tendency to seek connections with nature and other forms of life” (source: https://www.britannica.com/science/biophilia-hypothesis).
Why not try to use plants as much as possible around your office and at home; they can help improve indoor air quality and also help make the place look a lot nicer!

Have you ever considered other modes of travel like cycling, taking the public transport or walking to your destination (we appreciate if you’re meeting a friend 10 miles away this might not be applicable!).
From an office perspective, to encourage more people to consider these alternatives, why not set up an incentive programme or have a healthy competition within the team?
Calculate your carbon footprint
You often hear people talk about the importance of lowering your carbon footprint, but what does that mean, and how do you actually do it? Carbon footprint refers to the amount of CO2 emissions that is linked to all the activities that you do day-to-day.
A great way to think different is to calculate your footprint and set yourself a goal to reduce it. Has your carbon footprint changed over the lockdown period? If it has improved, how can you transform this into a habit and make long-term changes? Can you set up a goal as a team or company so you can collectively reduce your carbon footprint? A lot of companies are now putting sustainability higher in the corporate agenda, as people understand the benefits that this can have on the environment as well as on how the business operates.
