Printing with Microsoft Edge

With the launch of Microsoft Windows 10 came a new internet browser call Edge. Currently, the Edge Browser automatically shrinks PDFs to fit A4 paper size, with no option to override. Avery Design & Print automatically converts any label design you create to PDF format for optimum print results. When printing on labels, you do not want an automatic “Shrink to fit” option to happen. The following article shows how you can design your products in Edge, but print using Internet Explorer (which lets you select “Actual size”).

Step 1: How do I know if I am using Edge?

The Edge logo and Internet Explorer icons are very similar… but this is how you tell them apart:

Step 2: Before you start

Please ensure you have the latest version of Adobe Acrobat installed on your machine.  You can download this from Adobe via this link:
Adobe Reader

Step 3: Create your design

From, design and save your Avery labels, cards etc on the Design & Print canvas. When you are finished, press the green Preview & Print button:

Step 4: Choose the Print Button

If you’re happy with the preview, press the green Print button.  A warning box will pop up advising you to from Internet explorer. Click on the green Open button.

Step 5: Don't print yet!

Microsoft Edge will automatically open a “preview.pdf” in a new tab on your browser. Please do not click print at this point!  Instead click the 3 dots at the top right of your screen.

Step 6: Open Internet Explorer

The 3 dots will open up an additional options menu.  Find and click on “Open with Microsoft Explorer”.

Step 7: Check printer settings

Internet Explorer will open and your printer’s dialogue box will automatically open at the same time.
Before printing, ensure you have the following settings selected:
- A4 paper
- Actual Size (and not “Fit to size”)
We also recommend printing from your rear/manual feed tray if your printer has one.
