Create your own Mother's Day card

Create that special card for mothers day, birthdays, christmas or valentines day using Avery greeting cards and free Avery Design and Print Online software. Send that extra special message with a home made card.

Step 1: Choose Your Product

In this guide we are using a MD2001 Avery A5 Greeting Cards; part of Avery ‘My Design’ it’s ideal for inkjet printers and includes fun stickers to make your card extra special. To create the ‘M’ shape of the mother’s day card we are using an A4CT Avery A4 Compact Trimmer, a portable and lightweight trimmer which is self-folding for easy storage in your home.

Step 2: Use Avery Design and Print Online

Using Free Avery Design and Print Online software, type in the product code you wish to use on the opening screen. In this example MD2001 is being used. You can also browse by product category if you are not sure of the product code to use.

Step 3: Select Your Predesign

Avery Design and Print Online offer many pre-designed templates for your cards to help you get started, or you can start with a blank template.
In this example we have used a horizontal blank template; we chose an image from the Avery Gallery on the tool bar and clicked ‘set as background’ then ticked the ‘lock aspect ratio box’ so the design extends to the end of the card.

Tip: You can always add a photo saved on your PC to your predesign or use it as a background

Step 4: Design Your Card

You can now use all the features of Avery Design and Print Online to design your card. Using the tools on the left of the screen you can add text, shapes, images (either images from the Avery gallery or photographs/images from your PC).

Tip: For an extra personalised card why not alter the image colour, on this card we changed the colour of the background and the bees, select the image; click ‘change colour’ on the toolbar then click on the part of the image you want to change; double click on the colour you want to change it to.

Step 5: Design the outside of the card

Please note that when using the software the 'front' of the card is actually one side of the A4 sheet, which will be folded in half after printing.  So 'front' is where you create the 'outside' of the card when it is folded in half. If you are not sure which side of the card you have designed, use the print preview feature to double check.

Tip: MD2001 includes fun stickers in the pack which you can use to decorate your card; we will add a few glitter stickers to ours.

Step 6: Design the inside of the card

The 'back' of the card is actually one side of the A4 sheet, which will be folded in half after printing and become the inside of your card including your message. Save and print on an inkjet printer (it may be worth testing on normal paper first to ensure that you place the paper in the printer the correct way up and right way round)

Tip: Instead of saving the card on your PC; save to your online Design and Print account so you can access and modify it for future cards.

Step 7: Cut the card to shape

Fold the card in half then pencil the outline of the letter ‘M’ making sure the top of the ‘M’ is where the card folds. Use the Avery Compact trimmer to accurately cut the shape making sure you don’t cut across the top two sections of the ‘M’ that join the card together.
Pop into the envelope and its ready to send!

Tip: Your self-folding trimmer can be hidden away easily for your next card, remember there are 5 cards in each Avery Greeting Card pack so you can use again for Easter!
